Kirit Somaiya accuses Beed officials of issuing bogus birth certificates, faces protest
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: BJP leader Kirit Somaiya reached Parli from Beed district on Tuesday and levelled charges of issue of bogus birth certificates.
Claiming that bogus certificates were allegedly issued to Bangladeshi Muslims and nationals of other countries from Beed, Parli, Georai, and Majalgaon talukas, he sought an official inquiry and criminal action against bogus beneficiaries and other elements involved.
A section of minority groups showed black flags to the BJP leader at Parli when his convoy passed through the area. The protesters also tried to stop the convoy, but cops on duty made way for Somaiya's vehicle.
Speaking with media persons at Parli, Somaiya said an offence was registered in the matter of bogus birth certificates issued in Beed. "Similar offences need to be registered at other talukas of Beed district. Issuing of bogus certificates is a threat to national security and promotes terrorism," he said.
The BJP leader claimed that around 1,200 bogus birth certificates were issued in Parli. "I had a detailed discussion with the authorities from the Parli Tehsil office first and later with local police. In Parli, even a Nayab tehsildar-level official issued birth certificates without having such power. The local municipal council remained absent during hearings in some of these cases, which is another grave concern," he said.
Somaiya said around 2.23 lakh applications for birth certificates were received across Maharashtra ever since Tehsildar-level authorities were given power to issue such documents in Nov 2023.
"Around 97% of these applicants are bogus as they are not nationals of India. The age of many of these applicants is in the bracket of 40-60 years," he said.
